Regardless of the business in which they operate, a publicly listed company’s ex-dividend date is an important milestone for would-be investors looking for dividend stocks.

The ex-dividend date is the cut-off point for determining the number of shareholders eligible to receive the upcoming dividend. Anyone purchasing shares one day or more before the ex-dividend date qualify as recipients of the dividend. On the ex-dividend date the company and the market know how much the company will pay out in dividends.

The first trading day after the ex-dividend date the total amount of the dividends is reflected in the share price. The stock price typically falls in response but recovers in anywhere from a few f days to a few months.. That presents a window of opportunity to buy at a bargain price, as long as the investor has the patience to wait for the next dividend date. In Australia dividends are paid twice a year.

Here are the four companies going ex-dividend.
