Marvell Technology’s stock (MRVL) is on the move ahead of earnings today, up 6.08% in the pre-market at $220.92, matching Tuesday’s healthy 6.08% gain. The company reports earnings after the closing bell today, as Wall Street analysts focus on accelerating demand for custom AI chips and the company’s position in hyperscale data centre infrastructure.

Marvell’s shares have been gaining plenty of attention in recent sessions, up 27.45% on the week, and with multiple analysts raising price targets citing strong sales momentum for Marvell’s Trainium custom processors sold to Amazon and broader AI infrastructure tailwinds.

Beyond headline EPS and revenue numbers, the street will be looking for a strong guide from the company, with expectations elevated into the print.

The headline numbers are consensus earnings per share of $0.79 and revenue of $2.41 billion, representing a sales growth rate of 27.04% Y/Y. Analysts’ EPS estimates range from $0.62 to $0.83, while revenue forecasts span $2.275 billion to $2.451 billion.

What To Expect

Beyond the headline figures, the market will be focused on custom chip sales, particularly Trainium processors. Oppenheimer forecasts custom chip sales could reach $2 billion for the full fiscal year, making any update on order backlog or customer adoption critical to the post-earnings reaction.

Gross margin performance will also be closely watched, especially given the mix shift toward higher-value AI and data centre products. Any commentary on margin sustainability as custom chip volumes scale will be important for longer-term earnings models.

Management guidance for the current quarter and full fiscal year will be scrutinised for signs of sustained AI infrastructure spending by hyperscalers, which have been the primary growth driver for Marvell’s networking and data centre chip portfolio.

The consensus EPS estimate of $0.79 comes from 34 analysts covering the stock, with the wide range of estimates suggesting some uncertainty around the timing and scale of custom chip revenue recognition and the broader trajectory of AI infrastructure spending. Revenue consensus of $2.41 billion falls within a relatively tight range, indicating more agreement on the top-line outlook than on profitability.

Marvell is reporting during a period of heightened interest in AI semiconductor stocks, with investors closely monitoring sales trends for networking chips, custom silicon, and optical connectivity products used in AI clusters and cloud data centres.

A beat on EPS and revenue, combined with strong guidance for custom chip sales and confirmation of hyperscaler demand, would likely support further gains. The analyst community has already priced in optimism around Trainium, so meeting or exceeding elevated expectations will be critical.

Conversely, any disappointment on Trainium order volumes, weaker-than-expected guidance, or signs of margin pressure as the company scales production could trigger a sharp pullback. Given the stock’s recent rally on analyst optimism, the bar for a positive reaction may be higher than usual.

Analysts Raise Price Targets Into Print

Marvell’s recent share price strength leading in reflects the growing confidence in the company’s ability to capitalise on AI infrastructure spending. The recent analyst upgrades from firms including Citi, Oppenheimer, Wells Fargo, and Melius Research highlighted accelerating demand for AI chips and a significant sales backlog for Trainium.

Citi raised from $118 to $215, maintaining a Buy rating on higher earnings expectations supported by Trainium 2 ASIC demand. Susquehanna also more than doubled it’s price target from $100 to $230 with upside seen for DC.

HSBC was ultra aggressive in its raise, moving from $85 to $300 with optical interconnect strength and CXL revenue opportunity seen as underappreciated by markets so far. Morgan Stanley are another to raise, going from $103 to $172, expecting a beat and raise quarter, although raising questions about valuation.

The broader semiconductor sector has benefited from a multi-year expansion in data centre capital expenditure by hyperscalers such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, all of which are deploying custom silicon to support AI workloads and improve cost efficiency, and Marvell has been a key beneficiary.

Marvell competes in networking, data centre connectivity, and custom chip design, positioning it to benefit from both the scale-out of AI clusters and the shift toward distributed AI architectures that require high-bandwidth optical networking and advanced interconnects.
