Chevron (NYSE: CVX) will report second-quarter 2026 earnings on Friday before US markets open, closing out a volatile quarter in which oil prices surged back above $100 per barrel and insurers began shifting upstream coverage away from Middle East conflict zones.
The street is expecting EPS of $5.57, up sharply from $1.77 in the year-ago quarter, whilst revenue is expected to come in at $60.38billion, up 34.71% Y/Y.
The market will likely focus on three core drivers: upstream production volumes, realised commodity prices, and margin impact from geopolitical shifts in the Middle East.
Chevron’s upstream segment will be under close scrutiny. Global insurers have responded to the Middle East conflict by slashing premiums on non-Middle East upstream energy projects by 25% to 50% year to date. That shift could benefit Chevron’s projects outside the region, but markets will want to see whether the company was able to capitalise on lower insurance costs or faced delays in the Middle East during Q2.

Realised crude and natural gas prices will be critical. WTI crude oil tested $100 per barrel on 23 July for the first time since May, only to fall back to sub $90, as volatility continues at pace.
Downstream margins and refining capacity utilisation will also matter. Higher crude input costs can squeeze refining margins if product prices don’t keep pace, and any operational disruptions or maintenance downtime could weigh on volumes.
Any commentary on share buybacks, dividend policy, or capital spending plans could also move the stock. Chevron’s trailing dividend yield is lower than BP’s 4.61%, but the company has maintained a consistent buyback programme, and investors will be watching for any changes to that commitment.
Price targets on the street remain elevated, with the average for CVX currently at $215, more than 15% up from here. Markets are pricing a ~2.5% move in the share price following the print, with a potential break of the $195 resistance on the cards on a bullish print.
