Megaport Limited shares (ASX:MP1) have extended their recent pullback, weighed down by concerns surrounding the acquisition of Latitude’.’sh, subsequent capital raising, and mixed analyst sentiment.
Megaport shares closed down 6.28% today at A$12.98, marking a 26.71% decline over the past month. Despite this recent downturn, MP1 remains significantly higher year-to-date, trading 74.93% above its January levels, reflecting a volatile but ultimately positive year for the company.
The recent pressure on Megaport’s share price can be attributed to several key developments. On November 12, the company announced the acquisition of Latitude.sh, a Compute-as-a-Service company, for an upfront consideration of US$150 million, with potential contingent payments reaching an additional US$150 million.
To fund this acquisition and support network expansion into India, Megaport completed a fully underwritten A$200 million institutional placement, issuing approximately 14 million new shares at A$14.30 each, a 6.5% discount to the prior closing price.

Megaport’s half-year financial results, released back in February, presented a mixed picture, but one which set the company up well. The company reported an 18% increase in Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) to $226.6 million and a 12% rise in revenue to $106.8 million compared to the same period last year. Net cash flow also improved by $3.2 million to $15.7 million.
Broader market trends have also played a role. The technology sector has faced headwinds due to macroeconomic factors, including rising interest rates and recession concerns, contributing to a general decline in tech stock valuations, including Megaport.
Bull Case:
- Strong ARR growth indicates continued customer demand.
- Latitude.sh acquisition expands service offerings.
- Improved net cash flow signals financial discipline.
Bear Case:
- Share dilution from capital raising weighs on price.
- Macquarie’s price target reduction signals concern.
- Tech sector headwinds could further pressure shares.
