Computershare shares (ASX:CPU) have seen an upgrade from JPMorgan, though the firm simultaneously trimmed its price target, reflecting a mixed outlook on the company’s financial prospects. The upgrade comes amid a series of recent analyst evaluations, painting a varied picture of Computershare’s market position and future performance.

Despite the upgrade to Neutral from Underweight, JPMorgan reduced its price target to A$36.50 from A$37. This adjustment follows a volatile period for Computershare, with the stock experiencing a 9% increase year-to-date. The upgrade signals a potentially more positive outlook, yet the reduced price target suggests lingering concerns about valuation.

JPMorgan’s analysis indicates that Computershare’s Q1 leading indicators on revenue suggest a reasonable chance of achieving the FY26 management EPS guidance. The financial firm also noted that non-margin income leading indicators for revenue appear to be in line with guidance. However, JPMorgan cautioned that foreign exchange rates are expected to have a slightly negative impact on the AUD valuation due to the weakening USD.

Recent analyst activity highlights the divided sentiment surrounding Computershare. Goldman Sachs upgraded the stock to Neutral with a A$39.50 price target in late September 2025, citing valuation considerations and confidence in the company’s fiscal 2026 guidance, which drove a 2.17% increase in Computershare’s shares following the announcement. Conversely, JPMorgan downgraded Computershare to Underweight in April 2025, citing concerns over EPS growth, particularly within the Mortgage Servicing segment. Jefferies also downgraded the stock to Hold in February 2025, based on valuation after a strong prior-year performance.

Computershare’s fiscal year 2025 earnings report, released in August, showed a 4.4% increase in total revenue (excluding the divested Mortgage Services business) to $3.1 billion, and a 15% rise in Management EPS to 135 cents per share. Despite these figures, the stock declined by 3.78% following the release, closing at A$39.75 and trade 6.75% lower from that point through to today. Today’s update from JP Morgan, with the price target mildly below the current price indicates this one may be searching for direction after the pullback.
