ANZ – ANZ BANK – up 39 cents, or 1.4 per cent, at $28.18

CBA – COMMONWEALTH BANK AUSTRALIA – up $1.33 , or 1.9 per cent, at $71.41

NAB – NATIONAL AUSTRALIA BANK – up 48 cents, or 1.8 per cent, at $27.81

WBC – WESTPAC – up 32 cents, or 1.2 per cent, at $27.93

MQG – MACQUARIE GROUP LTD – down $1.71, or 1.3 per cent, to $126.04

Macquarie Group’s current and future chief executives are expected to be interviewed by German police over the bank’s involvement in a share trading case.

A2M – A2 MILK – down 31 cents, or 2.9 per cent, at $10.24

Dairy producer A2 Milk Company shares fell to one-month lows after chief Jayne Hrdlicka sold her entire holdings last week and investment giant BlackRock and Pendal Group became substantial holders this week.

RIO – RIO TINTO – down 47 cents, or 0.6 per cent, at $78.76

BHP – BHP – up 15 cents, or 0.4 per cent, at $34.63

The materials sector closed higher despite losses to benchmark stock Rio Tinto.
