Stocks of interest on the Australian share market at the close on Friday:

RIO – RIO TINTO – down $1.11, or 1.4 per cent, to $76.54

BHP – BHP BILLITON – down 54 cents, or 1.6 per cent, to $33.38

The materials sector came under pressure on Friday amid growing concerns of a trade war between the US and China.

MYR – MYER – up 3 cents, or 5.9 per cent, to 53.5 cents

WES – WESFARMERS – up 12 cents, or 0.2 per cent, to $49.84

JBH – JB HI-FI – up 8 cents, or 0.4 per cent, to $22.74

The outlook for retailers has improved, with data released by the Australia Bureau of Statistics on Friday showing spending was up 0.4 per cent in June, which was slightly ahead of market expectations.

TPW – TEMPLE & WEBSTER- up 7.5 cents, or 11.3 per cent, to 74 cents

Online furniture and homewares company Temple & Webster announced they will deliver their first profit in 2019, buoyed by home-making millennials.
