Stocks to watch on the Australian stock exchange:

ANZ – ANZ BANKING GROUP – down 31 cents, or 1.08 per cent, at $28.46

CBA – COMMONWEALTH BANK – down $1.55 or 1.91 per cent, at $79.43

NAB – NATIONAL AUSTRALIA BANK – up one cent, or 0.03 per cent, at $29.59

WBC – WESTPAC – down one cent, or 0.03 per cent, at $31.47

BOQ – BANK OF QUEENSLAND – up 15 cents, or 1.15 per cent, at $13.18

BEN – BENDIGO AND ADELAIDE BANK – up 20 cents or 1.75 per cent, at $11.64

Banking shares fell on the announcement of an industry royal commission, but bargain hunters helped Westpac and NAB bounce back, while small lenders were buoyed by the perception they are less exposed.

ALL – ARISTOCRAT LEISURE – down $1.61 cents, or 6.82 per cent, at $21.99.

Poker machine supplier Aristocrat Leisure’s full-year net profit has jumped 41.3 per cent and it is buying Seattle-based social gaming company Big Fish Games for $US990 million ($A1.4 billion).

Oil and gas group AWE is considering a $430 million takeover bid from a Chinese state-owned energy corporation.

Tabcorp says it has settled online wagering firm CrownBet’s opposition to the gaming giant’s $11 billion merger deal with rival Tatts Group.
