BUY RECOMMENDATIONS
BUY – Evolution Mining (EVN)
EVN is a gold and copper producer. Despite a pullback in gold prices since peaking in early 2026, EVN’s full year 2026 guidance still looks achievable. We’re still anticipating strong cash generation. The balance sheet is strong and flexible enough to fund a meaningful growth pipeline. We remain upbeat on the medium term outlook for gold and copper prices. In our view, the weaker share price provides a buying opportunity. The shares have fallen from $17.67 on March 2 to trade at $13.59 on April 9.
BUY – Rio Tinto (RIO)
This mining giant is well positioned to benefit in what we see as a brighter outlook for commodities. Rio’s strategic pivot towards energy transition metals is performing strongly as copper and lithium projects scale up. Aluminium prices were recently buoyant. World class iron ore operations remain a resilient cash generator to fund growth. The dividend yield is decent. We see significant scope for an upward re-rating moving forward.
HOLD RECOMMENDATIONS
HOLD – SRG Global (SRG)
SRG operates a diversified infrastructure services company that maintains, upgrades and constructs critical assets for customers across multiple sectors. Operations remain solid, cash generation is healthy and debt is falling. The Total AMS acquisition appears to be tracking well and potentially adds a hefty sales opportunity. Inclusion in the S&P/ASX 200 Index should also provide support over time. We believe existing holders should sit tight as SRG digests the new acquisition.
HOLD – Qantas Airways (QAN)
Aggressive fleet renewal capital expenditure can be a drag on cash flows. Concerns about the cost of living may dampen international travel demand. However, a robust domestic market and highly profitable loyalty program provide support for an earnings floor. Qantas trades on an undemanding valuation, and we have been impressed by chief executive Vanessa Hudson’s performance. We remain holders of Qantas.
SELL RECOMMENDATIONS
SELL – Spark New Zealand (SPK)
Spark is a telecommunications and digital services company. Reported revenue declined 1.2 per cent in the first half of 2026 when compared to the prior corresponding period. Reported EBITDAI increased 10.3 per cent. Aggressive cost cutting contributed to improving earnings. But, in our, view, cutting costs has a finite runway against stalled top line revenue. Compounding this is a sluggish New Zealand economy. Spark is selling data centre assets, and, in our view, is sacrificing a structural growth lever for debt relief.
SELL – The a2 Milk Company (A2M)
The infant formula company lifted net sales revenue by 18.8 per cent in the first half of fiscal year 2026 when compared to the prior corresponding period. Net profit after tax from continuing operations was up 9.4 per cent. However, in our view, A2M faces a structural headwind. China’s birth rate fell to a record low in 2025, down 17 per cent on 2024. China’s population fell in 2025, marking the fourth consecutive year of decline. China is a key market for A2M, so sustaining revenue will be a challenge if the birth rate trend continues. Meanwhile, the US milk business posted an EBITDA loss of $3.4 million. We see better opportunities elsewhere, so investors may want to consider cashing in some gains.

BUY RECOMMENDATIONS
BUY – Sims Limited (SGM)
Sims offers exposure to long term stronger and sustainable commodity themes through its global metals recycling operations, particularly in Europe. Demand for recycled inputs, such as lithium, copper and gold, continue to grow as electrification and decarbonisation trends advance. The business provides leverage to improving industrial activity, although earnings can be volatile given commodity price swings and cyclical end markets. In our view, the strategic positioning justifies a buy despite near term volatility.
BUY – Origin Energy (ORG)
Origin combines an attractive income profile with leveraged exposure to Australia’s evolving energy market. The company benefits from scale in electricity generation and retailing, while its yield remains appealing in a market still sensitive to income certainty. That said, regulatory risk and energy price volatility remain key risks. We see Origin as well placed to balance defensive income characteristics with longer term opportunities tied to the domestic energy transition.
HOLD RECOMMENDATIONS
HOLD – Wesfarmers (WES)
This company continues to deliver reliable earnings through its diversified portfolio of quality retail and industrial businesses. Company net profit after tax rose 9.3 per cent in the first half of 2026 when compared to the prior corresponding period. Revenue was up 3.1 per cent. Hardware giant Bunnings lifted total sales by 4 per cent. Total sales at Officeworks were up 4.7 per cent. Strong balance sheet discipline and management execution support resilience across economic cycles. Much of this is already reflected in the share price, limiting near term upside, in my view. While it remains a high quality core holding, we believe a hold rating is appropriate until a lower share price or growth catalyst emerges.
HOLD – AGL Energy (AGL)
AGL provides exposure to Australia’s energy sector during a period of structural change. The company benefits from its scale and essential service positioning, but faces ongoing challenges as it navigates asset transitions and evolving policy settings. Earnings stability has improved, yet execution risk still remains. In our view, AGL warrants a hold rating, balancing its strategic importance against longer term capital requirements.
SELL RECOMMENDATIONS
SELL – Woodside Energy Group (WDS)
This energy giant has historically struggled to consistently meet market expectations, While the current commodity environment has supported its share price, we see this as an opportunity to exit. Capital intensity, project execution risk and long dated development timelines remain my concerns. Investors may want to consider taking advantage of its recent valuation and improved sentiment. The shares rose from $23.59 on January 9 to $35.80 on April 7. The shares were trading at $33.37 on April 9. The shares are also responding to volatile crude oil prices resulting from the Middle East conflict.
SELL – Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA)
The CBA remains a high quality banking operation, but its valuation is increasingly difficult to justify. The stock trades at a significant premium to global peers despite a mature domestic banking market and limited growth potential, in my view. While earnings remain stable, we see better value elsewhere in the sector. We believe the current share price leaves little margin for error, supporting a sell recommendation on valuation grounds. The shares have risen from $158.74 on February 10 to trade at $181.65 on April 9.
