Moderna shares (MRNA) climbed 5.56% toto $182.56, with the stock hitting it’s highest level in more than 3 years intraday at $187.20. Up 491.57% since the turn of calendar 2026, the shift in sentiment has been dramatic, and after a period of cooling from the initial August spike, bulls are back in the driving seat.

The market looks to be capitalizing a new franchise since Moderna and Merck reported positive Phase 3 results for intismeran autogene, their personalized mRNA cancer therapy, in surgically resected high-risk melanoma patients. Keeping momentum building is the announcement that detailed data from the INTerpath-001 study will be presented in a Presidential Symposium at the European Society for Medical Oncology Congress on October 24. That slot is reserved for research considered potentially practice-changing, and its assignment has converted an open-ended clinical story into a defined event trade with a fixed date.

The top-line melanoma results confirmed that the combination of intismeran and Merck’s Keytruda met its primary recurrence-free survival endpoint and a key secondary endpoint measuring distant metastasis-free survival. Both improvements were described as statistically significant and clinically meaningful. However, the actual hazard ratios, durability data and subgroup results have not yet been broadly disclosed, which means the October presentation carries genuine information content. Investors are positioning ahead of that reveal, and the Presidential Symposium designation has amplified the signal.

The investment case also extends beyond a single tumor type, with the two companies advancing intismeran across nine Phase II and Phase III studies covering non-small-cell lung cancer, bladder cancer and renal cell carcinoma, among others. If melanoma proves to be a reproducible proof of concept for the personalized mRNA approach, analysts have estimated potential peak sales across multiple cancers of roughly $9.2 billion.

Whilst the setup is technically strong, the combination of extended positioning above the upper band, elevated volatility and a high and rising beta means the stock could also be primed for sharp reversals if upcoming data disappoints.
