Santos Ltd has posted a near 18 per cent rise in fourth-quarter production, benefiting from higher gas output from its Western Australia assets.

Australia’s second biggest independent gas producer said output for the quarter ended December 31 rose to 18.7 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboe) from 15.9 mmboe a year earlier.

The output was higher than an RBC Capital Markets estimate of 18.5 mmboe for the quarter.

Quarterly revenue fell to $1.03 billion from $1.04 billion a year earlier, hurt by customer outages in Western Australia.
