A Qantas flight from Perth to Sydney has landed safely after being forced to return to Perth Airport due to an engineering issue.

Flight QF642 departed at 9:20am on Thursday and returned to Perth an hour later.

A Qantas spokesperson said reports the aircraft had made an emergency landing were incorrect but emergency service crews had attended as a precaution.

Perth Glory A-League chief executive Tony Pignata was on board the flight.

“Well that wasn’t pleasant having to circle for a bit and land back in Perth after the landing gear failed to retract. Well done to the Qantas Captain and crew in getting us safely back on the ground and keeping us informed,” he posted on Twitter.
