Pro Medicus shares (ASX:PME) closed 11.88% higher today at A$196.75, testing a A$200 break intraday, to sit well above the range that has capped the stock for much of the year. Today’s price action took place against the backdrop of a solid FY26 report that saw the company deliver a 25.5% hike in the full year dividend.
Underlying NPAT was 24.1% higher at $144.7m, revenue rose 22.9% to $261.7m, whilst cash and financial assets of $252.3m reflects a 19.7% jump. Combined with the FY dividend of $0.69, and there was plenty to like, particularly after a difficult year. With the Pro Medicus share price remaining 38.8% lower over the past 12 months, despite a 58% jump over the past 6 months, there has been plenty of the bear thesis built into the stock leading in.
Why Are Pro Medicus Shares Higher?
The rally appears to highlight the renewed conviction in the company’s contract pipeline, and a broader willingness among investors to revisit high-quality ASX technology names that were sold down aggressively during the market’s rotation away from long-duration growth stocks. There were 10 new contracts signed during the reporting period, with at least $407million coming off the back of these. Six renewals worth $141m were also made on fresh five year terms.
Pro Medicus is the developer of Visage 7, a cloud-native radiology imaging platform that has become deeply embedded in hospital systems across North America and Europe. Its business model, long-term contracts with large health networks, generates high renewal rates and predictable revenue, which is exactly the profile investors tend to reward when confidence returns to the software sector.
In June, the company announced a five-year, A$28 million renewal with Allegheny Health Network, lifting total contract renewals for the financial year to A$125 million. That announcement triggered its own 12% single-day spike, establishing a pattern: when Pro Medicus delivers concrete evidence of contract stickiness, the market responds decisively. Today’s move looks like investors positioning for more of the same.

Underpinning the sentiment shift is a debate about artificial intelligence that the company has been actively shaping. Chief executive Sam Hupert has pushed back firmly against the idea that AI poses an existential threat to the Visage platform, arguing instead that the company’s 17-year head start in building a purpose-designed imaging stack makes it harder to disrupt, not easier. That framing has gradually shifted the narrative from “AI victim” to “AI-adjacent beneficiary,” and it appears to be gaining traction.
On the charts, Pro Medicus has moved decisively back into a bullish setup. The stock is trading above its 50-day moving average, which itself sits above the 200-day average, a configuration that momentum-oriented funds treat as a green light for re-entry. The technical picture is broadly supportive, though not uniformly so, and it is best read as a backdrop that amplifies the fundamental and sentiment story rather than driving it independently.
A double digit day of gains in the share price, and a break above recent range is a clear victory for PME bulls on the day, yet there remains plenty of work ahead if the stock is to return to previous heights. Volatility has come to be expected here, so whichever way things progress, do not expect smooth sailings.
