Pro Medicus shares (ASX: PME) closed 3.43% higher at A$185.13 ahead of today’s final trading session of the week, capping a remarkable 45% rally over the past month of trading.
Despite the strong recent performance, the PME share price remains 16.73% lower year-to-date, highlighting the scale of the earlier pullback, that has now been substantially unwound. The company has rebounded sharply as markets reassessed the company’s AI growth trajectory following a material announcement.
The company announced that it has signed a binding Heads of Agreement with Echo IQ for a strategic financing and reseller arrangement, marking a decisive expansion into AI-driven cardiology solutions.
The Echo IQ Strategic Partnership
Under the binding Heads of Agreement, Pro Medicus has committed to a strategic investment framework of up to A$20 million in Echo IQ via secured convertible notes. The structure includes an initial A$10 million secured convertible note subscription, with an option for a further A$10 million investment contingent upon Echo IQ’s heart-failure algorithm, EchoSolv HF, securing U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance.

Beyond the financing component, the agreement establishes Pro Medicus as the U.S. reseller of Echo IQ’s EchoSolv AI-driven cardiac diagnostic platform. This arrangement enables Pro Medicus to integrate Echo IQ’s algorithms, focused on detecting aortic stenosis and heart failure, directly into its Visage 7 Cardiology platform, offering the combined solution to its extensive network of U.S. health system clients.
The parties have committed to negotiating definitive legal agreements within approximately 20 business days. Should these negotiations fail to produce binding documentation within that window, the transaction may lapse. Pro Medicus has undertaken to update shareholders once final agreements are executed or if discussions conclude without a deal.
Platform Expansion
The Echo IQ partnership represents a notable evolution in Pro Medicus’ AI strategy. Historically concentrated on its proprietary Visage imaging stack, the company is now actively building a platform that hosts in-house, partner-developed, and third-party AI algorithms. The move positions Visage 7 Cardiology as a hub for multiple algorithmic solutions rather than a closed ecosystem, potentially deepening customer lock-in as hospitals embed diverse workflows and disease-specific tools into their imaging infrastructure.
The focus on cardiology addresses high-burden, high-cost disease areas that align naturally with Pro Medicus’ existing push to unify radiology and cardiology imaging under a single enterprise platform. The financial structure of the Echo IQ investment (secured convertible notes reportedly carrying a 12.5% coupon with equity conversion upside) provides Pro Medicus with downside protection through yield while preserving exposure to Echo IQ’s growth potential.
From a distribution perspective, Pro Medicus gains immediate access to a differentiated AI product it can sell into its established U.S. customer base, which includes major academic medical centres and large health systems already using Visage. For Echo IQ, the arrangement offers accelerated market access and validation from a Tier 1 imaging vendor, potentially shortening its path to commercial scale.
AI Push
The Echo IQ announcement comes after the company secured a seven-year, A$16 million contract with U.S. provider TidalHealth, covering deployment of the Visage 7 platform last month. This includes viewer, workflow, open archive, and cardiology modules, delivered via the cloud on a transaction-based model.
Then in April, Pro Medicus announced a five-year contract valued at approximately A$23 million with the University of Maryland Medical System, again delivered via cloud under transaction-based licensing. These deals follow the landmark A$170 million, 10-year agreement with UCHealth announced in 2025, which included cardiology and archive migration components and remains one of the largest contracts in the company’s history.
The steady cadence of multi-year, cloud-based agreements with prominent U.S. health systems validates both the technical differentiation of the Visage platform and the scalability of Pro Medicus’ transaction-based revenue model. The inclusion of cardiology modules in recent contracts confirms that customers are purchasing—not merely piloting—the Visage 7 Cardiology offering, providing a receptive installed base for the Echo IQ algorithms once integrated.
What To Watch
Pro Medicus shares have historically commanded a premium valuation relative to broader healthcare IT peers, justified by its high-margin, transaction-based SaaS-like model, blue-chip customer base, and strong competitive positioning in enterprise imaging. The 45% rally over the past month suggests markets are pricing in a material acceleration in AI monetisation, particularly within cardiology, as the Echo IQ partnership moves from concept to commercial reality.
However, the stock’s 17% year-to-date decline prior to the recent surge indicates that expectations had moderated earlier in 2026, reflecting broader risk-off sentiment in high-multiple growth stocks, and software names. There is plenty of volatility in PME, and when a stock moves fast in either direction, there is a heightened possibility of sharp moves back to test a move. For now, bulls have been finding support, and willing buyers down at depressed levels, yet there remains a $37 gap to the YTD break even line that would suggest a marked shift in sentiment.
Bull Case:
- Echo IQ partnership accelerates AI monetisation in high-value cardiology specialty
- Steady flow of large U.S. cloud contracts validates platform strength
- Transaction-based model offers scalable, high-margin revenue as volumes ramp
- Third-party AI strategy deepens customer lock-in and competitive moat
- Structured financing provides downside protection with equity-like upside exposure
Bear Case:
- Heads of Agreement may lapse if definitive documentation not completed
- FDA clearance delays for EchoSolv HF would cap strategic upside
- Multiple large implementations create execution and resource strain risk
- 45% monthly rally leaves valuation vulnerable to profit-taking on stumbles
- Key executive departure introduces continuity risk in finance and investor relations
