NexGen Energy shares (ASX:NXG) climbed 4.83% during yesterday’s trading session, touching a session high of A$13.97 as buyers returned to one of the exchange’s higher-profile uranium developers. This builds on what has been a solid bounce off support around A$12.50, with the NXG share price now 10% up over the past week.

The bounce is a combination of positioning repair and renewed macro interest in uranium after a difficult period for the stock. NexGen has been working through a difficult stretch following a sharply wider net loss for 2025, a first-quarter earnings result that fell well short of expectations, and a share price that has been basing around A$12.50 after hitting A$20 earlier this year.

On the technical side, NexGen is trading below both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, with the shorter average sitting below the longer. That configuration, combined with the 20-day exponential average also sitting below its 50-day counterpart, describes a stock in a medium-term downtrend rather than one that has established a new base.

The latest move looks like a counter-trend move within a still-negative structure from the January high. The stock’s beta of around 2.06 relative to the broader market underscores how amplified its moves can be in either direction, which means the 4.83% gain is the kind of daily swing NexGen investors have come to expect, both on the way up and on the way down.

The start of a more meaningful shift would begin with a sustained hold above A$14, ideally with improving volume, and progress toward the 50-day average as a first resistance test. On the other side, any deterioration in uranium prices, a macro risk-off shift, or further evidence of construction cost pressure could quickly reassert the downtrend. If the upside move fails to hold, a 10% move off the low could be looked as consolidation into the pullback, so we would be keeping a close eye on confirmation signals.
