Megaport shares (MP1) have staged a dramatic reversal, climbing to a new all-time high of A$22.98 on Thursday before closing at A$21.68, pushing the company’s market capitalisation above A$5 billion for the first time as markets embrace its transformation into an AI infrastructure platform.
The 4.94% gain on Thursday caps a remarkable turnaround for MP1 shares, which now sit 82% higher year-to-date, after plunging 55% in the first four months of 2026. From mid-April lows, the stock has soared 227%, driven by a strategic pivot into AI infrastructure and a series of major contract wins that have fundamentally reshaped how markets value the business. At A$21.68, Megaport commands a market capitalisation of A$5.12 billion, representing a dramatic re-rating from its connectivity-focused roots.
The latest catalyst for the reversal came in June 2026, when Megaport announced four new AI infrastructure contracts with a combined total contract value of approximately A$458.9 million. Alongside the deals, management unveiled plans to build what it describes as a “Globally-Distributed AI Inference Cloud” leveraging the company’s footprint of more than 1,100 data centres across 31 countries. The strategy centres on creating an on-demand GPU pool that enables customers to access compute capacity at the edge, positioning Megaport to capture demand for distributed AI inference workloads.
To fund the capital-intensive expansion, Megaport launched a fully underwritten 1-for-3.08 accelerated non-renounceable entitlement offer, raising approximately A$827.3 million in new equity. The institutional component raised roughly A$518 million in early June, with strong support from existing long-term holders including AustralianSuper, which held approximately 9% of the register following the raise. The retail offer was subsequently completed, providing Megaport with the balance sheet capacity to acquire GPU assets outright rather than simply brokering connectivity between customers and third-party providers.
The equity raise, though heavily dilutive at nearly A$1 billion against the pre-deal market cap, has been digested by markets as the price for entering a significantly larger addressable market. Management has framed AI inference as “one of the biggest infrastructure opportunities of the next decade,” and the contracts provide multi-year revenue visibility that underpins a step-change in growth expectations.

Evolution at Megaport
From a strategic standpoint, Megaport has evolved from a pure network-as-a-service provider into a full-stack infrastructure platform encompassing network, compute, storage, and now GPU capacity. However, the transformation also introduces new risks. Building and operating a global GPU pool across more than 1,100 data centres is operationally complex, and execution risk around utilisation rates, integration, and customer adoption will be closely watched.
Valuation has emerged as a key topic of conflict between bulls and bears, where after a 227% rally from the lows and an 82% year-to-date gain into new all-time highs, some feel that expectations may have overshot near-term fundamentals.
The shift in sentiment that has seen Megaport’s share price reverse from a 55% drawdown to record highs underscores how quickly sentiment can shift when a company successfully repositions into a high-growth theme. Yet after giving time for technicals to cool off, and now hitting fresh highs, it does not feel like bulls are ready to allow another reversal anytime soon.
