JB Hi-Fi shares (ASX: JBH) added 2.89% today to A$67.22, with the stock bouncing back from two year lows that followed its mid-August results. Bulls will be hoping that the sub A$65 levels are now a thing of the past, and will be eyeing this as a level to hold.
The move reflects some positioning repair, with the stock bouncing out of oversold conditions, to follow three consecutive red days, with the same number of green. The JB Hi-Fi share price sold off roughly 12.3% on the day it delivered its FY26 results on 17 August, despite posting record group sales of about A$11.06 billion, with earnings and profit up mid-single digits and an ordinary dividend lifted to 337 cents per share.
With the stock price having made a 20% drop from then ahead of the recent bounce from an RSI at 26, this looks like a relief rally.
The problem with the financials were the forward read, with July trading soft, with JB Hi-Fi Australia total sales down 0.5% and comparable sales down 1.4%, while The Good Guys slipped 1.7% and the e&s business fell 2.7%. Markets are forward looking in nature, and priced the four weeks of July over the record year that had just finished.
The company’s annual report, lodged on 11 September, put more emphasis on July softness, rising supplier costs in PC and tech categories, and stock availability constraints. But it also reinforced the structural strengths, and that combination is what makes JB Hi-Fi a natural candidate when investors tentatively rotate back into beaten-up consumer names ahead of the big promotional windows.

What Lay Ahead?
Looking to analysts for clues, and the average price target sits at A$76.90, ~14% above today’s last price. That gap supports the idea that the Street still sees value at current levels, even with near-term demand risk front of mind. Much of the recent analyst commentary has focused on timing risk in early FY27 trading rather than questioning the group’s market share, cash generation or dividend capacity.
On the charts, the technical picture is still one of a counter-trend rally inside a broader downtrend. The stock remains below its 50-day average at A$74.76, and that 50-day sits below the 200-day at A$79.44. The shorter 20-day exponential average is also below the 50-day, confirming negative moving-average alignment.
Momentum readings show the commodity channel index around -92 and recovering from a downside stretch, consistent with a bounce from recently oversold conditions, while the average directional index near 39.5 and rising points to a strong prevailing trend, which in this case is the prior downtrend.
It may take a further trading update from the company to shift sentiment meaningfully, with markets keen to see some improvement on those July readings. Today’s bounce will be welcome relief for JBH holders, yet there remains plenty of work to be done to restore what remains a 30% drawdown this year.
Bull Case:
- Record FY26 sales and earnings underline business quality
- Lifted dividend and net cash balance sheet support returns
- Street target of A$76.90 sits about 14% above current price
Bear Case:
- July comparable sales fell across Australia and The Good Guys
- Medium-term downtrend intact below key moving averages
- Supplier cost rises and stock shortages threaten tech margins
