IperionX shares (ASX: IPX) have continued to rally today, putting up gains of more than 60% in a little over 6 weeks, fuelled by increasing titanium demand and significant contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The rally reflects growing market confidence in the company’s strategic positioning and technological advancements in titanium production.

The IperionX share price closed today at A$7.16, with a 7.19% increase making IPX the second best performer on the ASX200. This brings the year-to-date gain to an impressive 29.95%, achieved with barely two weeks of 2026 under it’s belt. The upward trajectory mirrors the broader positive sentiment surrounding the commodity sector, particularly for companies involved in critical materials.

The company’s recent success is underpinned by several key developments over the past year, that have continued into the new year. In June 2025, IperionX secured a contract with the U.S. DoD valued at up to $99 million. This Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase III Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract aims to advance low-cost domestic titanium production for defense applications. Initial projects involve manufacturing titanium fasteners at IperionX’s Virginia facility using their proprietary technologies.

Adding to this momentum, IperionX was awarded up to $47.1 million by the U.S. DoD in February 2025 to bolster the U.S. Defense Industrial Base and establish a fully integrated domestic titanium supply chain. This initiative includes advancing the Titan Critical Minerals Project in Tennessee and expanding titanium production capacity at the Virginia campus.

IperionX successfully commissioned its Titanium Manufacturing Campus in Virginia by mid-2025. The facility is now operational, producing high-quality titanium. This demonstrates the company’s ability to scale production and meet increasing demand.

IperionX’s share price reached an all-time high of A$9.2o in October 2025, only for intense volatility to follow. Share prices fell 50% from highs, only to once again reverse track with gains of 62% since November 24th.

Bull Case:

  • Strong government support via substantial DoD contracts.
  • Successful commissioning of Virginia titanium manufacturing campus.
  • Positive analyst coverage with high price targets.

Bear Case:

  • Execution risks in scaling up titanium production.
  • Market volatility impacting commodity prices.
  • Reliance on government contracts creates concentration risk.

The confluence of government contracts, operational milestones, and positive analyst coverage has created a bullish environment for IperionX. The company’s ability to capitalize on increasing titanium demand and secure strategic partnerships positions it for continued growth. However, potential challenges include execution risks associated with scaling production and market volatility affecting commodity prices.
