Greatland Resources shares (ASX: GGP) reached a new high today, driven by increased gold and copper production and a robust cash balance, reflecting growing market confidence in the mining company’s performance.

The Greatland Resources share price closed out at A$11.38, a 5.57% increase for the day, after hitting an intraday (and new all time) high of A$11.62. This surge indicates strong market sentiment following the company’s latest production report and financial update.

The company reported preliminary production figures for the December 2025 quarter showing 86,273 ounces of gold and 3,528 tonnes of copper, up from 80,890 ounces of gold and 3,366 tonnes of copper in the previous quarter. This brings the total output for the first half of FY2026 to 167,163 ounces of gold and 6,894 tonnes of copper. Sales volumes for the quarter were slightly lower, with 72,212 ounces of gold and 3,301 tonnes of copper sold. All-in sustaining costs (AISC) are still being finalized and will be included in the upcoming December 2025 Quarterly Activities Report.

Greatland Resources closed December with $948 million in cash, a significant increase from $750 million at the end of September. The company reiterated that it remains debt-free. The $198 million cash increase occurred despite ongoing capital expenditure and a one-off $46 million stamp duty payment related to the Telfer–Havieron acquisition. Excluding this payment, the underlying cash build would have been $244 million.

Bull Case:

  • Strong production growth in gold and copper output.
  • Robust cash position with no debt provides financial flexibility.
  • Inclusion in S&P/ASX 200 increases market visibility.

Bear Case:

  • Revised production guidance creates uncertainty.
  • Increased AISC could impact profitability.
  • Reliance on Telfer–Havieron acquisition for growth.

The recent surge in Greatland Resources’ share price reflects a confluence of positive factors, including increased production, and a strong cash position. Having printed fresh highs, the shares are in a phase of price discovery, which can be volatile as markets find a level.
