Computershare Limited share price (ASX:CPU) rallied today following an upgrade from Citi, who turned bullish on the stock. Computershare shares close at A$34.62 today, reflecting a 1.94% increase following Citi’s announcement upgrading the stock to ‘Buy’ from ‘Neutral’, setting a price target of A$39.60.
The recent upgrade by Citi is one of several analyst actions out of Wall Street for the firm. Back in September, Goldman Sachs upgraded the stock to ‘Neutral’ with a similar price target to that of Citi’s (A$39.50), citing valuation alignment and confidence in the company’s fiscal year 2026 guidance, despite potential margin pressures from anticipated cash rate cuts and weaker transaction revenues.
JPMorgan, in October 2025, also shifted its stance to ‘Neutral’ from ‘Underweight’, albeit while lowering the price target to A$36.50 from A$37.00. Looking back a bit further, Jefferies downgraded Computershare to ‘Hold’ in February 2025, despite increasing the price target to A$39.50, citing valuation considerations after a substantial prior-year return.

Bull Case:
- Citi’s ‘Buy’ rating signals strong growth confidence.
- Strategic acquisitions enhance market position.
- Divestment improves efficiency and shareholder value.
Bear Case:
- Valuation concerns highlighted by multiple analysts.
- Potential margin pressures from cash rate cuts.
- Mixed analyst ratings create uncertainty.
The markets will likely continue to monitor Computershare’s performance against its fiscal year 2026 earnings guidance. Analyst ratings remain mixed, reflecting both optimism regarding growth potential and caution regarding valuation. With shares almost neutral on a 1 year basis (-0.09%), bulls will be looking for the relative underperformance to shift in the year ahead. The perceived upside of 14% to Citi’s price target would reflect a welcome reprieve for CPU bulls.
