Austal Limited shares (ASX: ASB) have soared to a new high today, as the rally in the shipbuilding company continues at a rapid rate of knots.
The Austal share price reached a high of A$8.44, before ending the day at A$8.40, up 2.69%. This brings the ASB rally to 170.97% since the beginning of the year and a hugely impressive 300% gain over the past 12 months. Several fundamental factors have contributed to this surge with the stock also being added to the S&P/ASX 200 Industrials Sector Index on June 22.

Further bolstering market confidence, Austal appointed Susan Murphy AO as a Non-Executive Director, effective September 1. Murphy, an experienced engineer and executive, is expected to provide valuable guidance and oversight as the company continues to expand.
Austal also raised its unaudited FY2025 EBIT guidance on August 4th, from at least A$80 million to at least A$100 million. This upward revision signals improved operational efficiency and a positive outlook for the company’s financial performance.
However, Austal USA, a subsidiary of Austal Limited, agreed to pay a $24 million penalty to settle an accounting fraud investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice. The company admitted to inflating profits on U.S. Navy shipbuilding contracts between 2013 and 2016. While this settlement introduces a negative element, the company has stated that the settlement was in the best interest of the company and that new controls have been implemented.
The boost in demand for defence stocks, and a recent deal with the Australian government, worth some A$1-1.3 billion has seen sentiment soar.
