The individual leaders were a mixed bag, with Megaport shares surging 11.26 percent to $18.48 following a three day halt that saw a capital raise and new deals announced. CSL shares rallied 5.75 percent to $97.91, as selling pressure eased ahead of the weekend.

At the other end of the spectrum, resource stocks bore the brunt of selling pressure.
Minerals 260 plunged 9.36 percent to $0.775, Liontown Resources fell 6.14 percent to $2.14, and Bellevue Gold dropped 5.46 percent to $1.385. Mineral Resources declined 5.09 percent to $67.57, Resolute Mining shed 5.02 percent to $1.135, and Elevra Lithium retreated 4.67 percent to $11.03.
The Materials sector’s sharp decline reflected mounting concerns about the sustainability of the commodity price cycle that has underpinned much of the ASX’s recent strength. Lithium stocks remained under particular pressure as spodumene prices continue to drift lower amid oversupply concerns and a more cautious outlook for electric vehicle adoption rates.
Gold miners also struggled despite ongoing macro uncertainty, with both Bellevue Gold and Resolute Mining sliding more than five percent. The weakness in gold stocks, traditionally viewed as defensive plays during market turbulence, suggested markets are reassessing the safe-haven trade as real yields adjust and geopolitical risk premiums moderate. This came despite a bullish year end forecast for gold.
