The S&P/ASX 200 Index edged down 0.09% on Wednesday to close at 8,933.90 points, maintaining its position above the psychologically significant 8,900 threshold despite a mixed session that saw sharp divergence between commodity producers and technology stocks. The All Ordinaries Index (All Ords) closed at 9,250.60 after a 0.19% pullback, faring worse on the day.

Mining stocks dominated the day’s gains, with uranium and gold producers leading the charge. Deep Yellow Ltd surged 10.68% to $2.59, marking the session’s strongest performance as uranium prices continued their upward trajectory amid renewed focus on nuclear energy as a viable pathway to meet global decarbonisation targets. Fellow uranium producer Paladin Energy Ltd climbed 5.37% to $13.94, while Canadian-listed NexGen Energy advanced 4.63% to $18.52, underscoring the sector’s momentum.

Gold miners also featured prominently among the day’s winners, with Northern Star Resources Ltd gaining 3.25% to $28.60, Evolution Mining Ltd rising 4.0% to $15.35, and West African Resources Ltd adding 3.5% to $3.84. The strength in precious metals producers reflected rising gold prices as markets sought safe-haven assets amid ongoing economic uncertainties and geopolitical tensions. Ora Banda Mining Ltd rounded out the gold sector gains with a 4.36% advance to $1.675.

Capstone Copper Corp rose 4.42% to $16.78, benefiting from strengthening copper prices and optimistic forecasts for infrastructure spending globally. The diversified commodity strength highlighted continued demand for materials essential to energy transition and construction projects.
