The ASX 200 closed virtually flat at 9,070 today, although the minor 0.04% pullback is technically the fifth consecutive session of declines. This was a session dominated by reporting season, albeit with certain growth oriented segments of the market taking pause.

Even an impressive performance from market heavyweight BHP and a clutch of healthcare and industrial names delivering standout earnings results were not enough to flip the narrative that has taken hold over the past week.

Market cap leader BHP shares closed 2.65% higher following its FY26 results, providing crucial support to the Materials sector, which edged up 0.15%. The mining giant’s performance was particularly notable given its substantial index weighting, with the early year rally pausing ahead of the print. With the results now in, bulls will be looking to retest highs.

The session’s winners were dominated by companies reporting earnings, with Reliance Worldwide Corporation leading the charge with a spectacular 24.65% rally to $4.50, even if the earnings themselves were not the reason. Coming alongside FY26 numbers was confirmation of a takeover bid at $4.75, pushing the stock towards the bid price.

CSL shares posted an equally impressive 17.25% gain to $157.82, adding $23.22 per share as markets begin to work through what management have called a ‘reset year’. Pro Medicus continued its strong run with an 11.88% bounce, while Cochlear climbed 7.58% to $141.20, reinforcing the strength in the healthcare sector.
