The federal government has promised a full inquiry into the dramatic closure of a Gold Coast nursing home, that left 70 frail residents abandoned.

Queensland MP Ros Bates says the promise was made by federal health department officials who attended a meeting for affected residents from the Earle Haven Retirement Village, which abruptly shut down a week ago.

She’s welcomed the probe, which left authorities scrambling to find temporary homes for 70 high-care residents who were evacuated after a dispute between the facility’s owner and operator meant there weren’t enough staff to care for them.
