Australia’s share market has had its best session in a week and closed higher after COVID-19 rattled the results of BHP and Westpac.

The S&P/ASX200 benchmark index closed higher by 47.0 points, or 0.77 per cent, to 6123.4 points on Tuesday.

The All Ordinaries index finished higher by 50.2 points, or 0.81 per cent, at 6268.7.

The Australian dollar was buying 72.2 US cents at 1622 AEST, up from 71.80 US cents at Monday’s close.
