Australian shares are expected to open higher after Wall Street stocks gained at the end of last week.

The SPI200 futures contract was up 31 points, or 0.49 per cent, at 6,350.0 at 0800 AEST, suggesting a positive start for the benchmark S&P/ASX200 on Monday.

On Wall Street on Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished up 0.75 per cent, the S&P 500 was up 0.96 per cent and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite was up 1.58 per cent to a record high close.

The Aussie dollar is buying 69.84 US cents from 69.95 US cents on Friday.
