The Australian share market is expected to open flat as investors wait for the latest unemployment data.

The SPI200 futures contract was up 2 points, or 0.03 per cent, at 6,552.0 at 0800 AEST, suggesting a slow start for the benchmark S&P/ASX200 on Thursday.

Wall Street finished lower overnight, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.17 per cent, the S&P 500 down 0.20 per cent and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite down 0.38 per cent.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics will release its jobs numbers for May at 1130 AEST on Thursday.

The Aussie dollar is buying 69.33 US cents from 69.46 US cents on Wednesday.
