Australian shares have lost ground across the board amid investor concerns over rising coronavirus cases at home and abroad.

The S&P/ASX200 benchmark index finished Monday down 89.1 points, or 1.51 per cent, at 5,815 points, and was down as much as 2.2 per cent around midafternoon.

The All Ordinaries index closed down 96.2 points, or 1.6 per cent, at 5,915.6.

Meanwhile, the Australian dollar was buying 68.84 US cents, barely changed from 68.83 US cents at the close of trade on Friday.
