Investors might be satisfied with a slight loss on the Australian share market after shares improved following the final US presidential debate.

After a good US lead, the S&P/ASX200 benchmark index closed lower by 6.8 points, or 0.11 per cent, to 6167.0 on Friday.

The index fell to a session low of 6148.4 shortly after US President Donald Trump and Democratic rival Joe Biden began bickering but gradually improved.

The index finished the week lower by 0.16 per cent but is ahead for the month by 6.04 per cent.

The All Ordinaries finished down by 10 points, or 0.16 per cent, to 6373.7.

The Aussie dollar was buying 71.07 US cents at 1627 AEDT, higher from 70.96 US cents at the close of trade on Thursday.
