Packaging company Amcor says it has received the final regulatory approval it needed to take over US rival Bemis.

The US Department of Justice permitted the transaction on the condition that Amcor, which plans a new dual-listing on the New York Stock Exchange and the ASX, sells some of its assets in the country.

Amcor shares were worth $15.98 before the start of trade on Friday, up 19 per cent in the last six months.
