Victorians have claimed more than $3 million in residential solar rebates in the first five months of a scheme aimed to help lower household expenses, fight climate change and boost jobs.

About 1600 properties have already received a rebate of up to $2225 each, Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio said on Friday.

Solar panel purchases are eligible for a rebate on up-front costs until July, when the scheme will shift to an part-payment system in combination with a four-year interest-free loan.
