Stocks of interest on the Australian stock exchange on Wednesday:

BHP – BHP BILLITON – down 45 cents, or 1.3 per cent, at $33.78

RIO – RIO TINTO – down $1.46, or 1.8 per cent, at $80.16

Iron ore prices were flat but copper and zinc both fell in overnight trade, while uncertainty persists over fresh US tariffs.

AGL – AGL ENERGY – down $1.58, or 7 per cent, at $21.17

ORG – ORIGIN ENERGY – down 36 cents, or 3.6 per cent, at $9.73

The consumer watchdog has told the federal government it wants the Australian Energy Regulator to be given more powers to target market manipulation by suppliers.
