Brought to you by CommSec

Figure 1: Telstra 12 month chart

Telstra has reported a net profit $3.8 billion for 2013, an increase of 12 per cent compared to the previous year.

The result beat analysts’ expectations of $3.77 billion.

Telstra announced a fully-franked full-year dividend of 28 cents, which was expected.

One of the factors driving the better result was the strong performance of the mobile business.

Whilst mobile revenue has been moderating in recent years, the business continues to outperform its competitors.

Mobile revenue grew by 6% (or $520 million to $9.2b), compared to CommSec’s estimates of a 4% increase.
